ASICUS (ASCICUS, TASSACH), one of St. Patrick’s (17th March) earliest disciples, St. Asicus was renowned as an excellent coppersmith. St. Patrick made him Abbot-Bishop of Elphin, Co. Roscommon, where he is venerated as patron saint. St. Asicus lived to an advanced age, spending the last years of his life as a hermit, and reposed circa 500.

ENODER (CYNIDR, KENEDR, QUIDIC), A grandson of the great Welsh chieftain St. Brychan of Brycheiniog (6th April), St. Enoder is listed as an Abbot in the martyrologies, though we do not know of what monastery. Llangynidr in Powys in Wales, and Kenderchurch in Herefordshire, England are named for him, as are most likely St. Enoder or Enodoc in Cornwall.

FLORIBERT, the son of St. Hubert (3rd November), and his successor as Bishop of Liège. St. Floribert reposed in 746.

LIBERALIS, a priest from the area near Ancona in the Marches of present-day Italy. Nothing is known of his life beyond his fruitful work to bring Arians to orthodox Christianity, and the suffering he endured for this. St. Liberalis reposed circa 400 and his relics are enshrined at Treviso, Italy.

TERTULLIAN, a Bishop of Bologna who reposed circa 490.

THEOPHILUS, the successor of St. Gaudentius (25th October) as Bishop of Brescia. He reposed circa 427.

WINEWALD, the second Abbot of Beverley Abbey, in present-day East Yorkshire, St. Winewald succeeded St. Bercthun (15th May) to that post. He appears to have been successful in his efforts to make Beverley a centre of spiritual and cultural growth. St. Winewald reposed circa 731.

Prior to the Schism the Patriarchate of Rome was Orthodox, and fully in communion with the Orthodox Church. As Saint John of Shanghai and San Francisco +1966 said “The West was Orthodox for a thousand years, and her venerable Liturgy is far older than any of her heresies”.
